| Studio Curtains After ten years of making studio dividers and curtains for photographers we've found some of the most useful studio curtain combinations. Photographers use our commando cloth curtains for a variety of uses including reducing incoming window light, economically dividing studio space for multiple purposes, and just cleaning up the appearance of raw studio space. The most common applications are individual window treatments and lengths of commando curtains on track to darken the studio space. Fire retardent 16oz commando cloth will reduce incoming light by approximately 90 to 95% to allow studio lighting to perform to best effect. To completely shut out 100% of the incoming light is possible, but usually less practical and requires work lights to navigate the studio. Many of our customers combine room darkening commando cloth with voile curtains (also called sheers) to allow full outdoor lighting to enter the studio. The voile curtains (shown in combination with commandos on our home page) cut the brightness of natural light by about 1/2 f-stop and soften the harshness of sunshine. The commando and voile curtains work best on separate tracks - but it is possible to mount both on the same track and store the unused curtain at one end of the track. These ommando curtains are the same material and construction that is used in almost every television studio in the United States. Typically, TV stations use them in conjunction with seamless CBS gray muslin cyclorama curtains which can easily be washed with studio lights to create varying degrees of a light background. The commando cloth curtains are available in a variety of colors, but the great majority of our customers use black. The colored commando curtains cost about 15% more than black. A number of other fabrics are available for studio curtains - please consult us with any ideas or questions you have. |
